What Are Cool Communities/Cities?

* Local Communities Making a Commitment to Solve Global Warming
* Putting Proven Smart Energy Solutions to Work

All over Maine, communities are taking action to help solve global warming one Maine community at a time. From energy efficient lighting in Scarborough's high school, Kennebunk's Policy for - ES Certification requirement for all new purchases of computers, screens, office equipment, and appliances, to Saco's Photo voltaic and small wind turbine at the wastewater treatment plant and their consideration of hybrids for their fleets.   Local governments are moving forward with innovative energy solutions that curb global warming, save taxpayer dollars, and create healthier cities. Local leaders are moving Maine and America toward a safer and more secure future.

Maine Cool Community/City

These are cities that have made a commitment to stopping global warming by signing the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement and or the Governor's Carbon Challenge. The Cool Communities/Cities campaign helps communities and cities turn their commitments into action by pushing for smart energy solutions.

Seventeen Maine Communities have signed the Climate Protection Agreement.
